The Lohja Orchestra was founded in 1964 and in spring 1998 changed its name to the Lohja City Orchestra.
The orchestra has a wide repertoire, with a seasonal programme including chamber, light and church music as well as music for children and young people. Symphonies, large-scale vocal works and opera music are regular items on the programme, the orchestra works also every year with leading Finnish choirs and soloists.
The strength of the orchestra lies in its youthful, enthusiastic and versatile musicians. Its members are thus able to form a chamber orchestra, a string or wind quintet, a light or a large symphony orchestra.
The orchestra has made guest appearances at the Savonlinna Opera Festival, performed with world famous stars like Jose Carreras, Placido Domingo, Rolando Villazón and the tenor quartet Il Divo. In april 2017 the orchestra performed with Andrea Bocelli to a sold out concert at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki.
The Lohja City Orchestra is led by conductor Jukka Untamala.
