Razvan Popovici was born in Bucharest, Romania into a a family of musicians and started studying viola with his father, Mugur Popovici. Later he continued his studies in Salzburg, Paris and Freiburg.
As a soloist he has appeared at numerous renowned concert halls such as the Théatre-dés-Champs-Elysées in Paris, the Carnegie Hall in New York, the Musashino Hall in Tokyo, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and at the Konzerthaus und Musikverein in Vienna.
As a chamber musician Razvan Popovici has performed with artists like Konstantin Lifschitz, Natalia Gutman, Alexander Lonquich, Radovan Vlatkovic, Daishin Kashimoto and Gilles Apap at the Lucerne Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Harrogate Festival, Ferrara Musica, Boswil Sommer and many other prestigious festivals and concert halls such as South Bank and Wigmore Hall in London, YMCA in Jerusalem and Prinzregententheater in Munich.
He has been guest principal violist in many European orchestras, such as the Essen Philharmonics, the München, Köln and Kobe Chamber Orchestras and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra.
Razvan Popovici is director of the Chiemgauer Musikfrühling Festival in Germany and of the SoNoRo Festival in Bucharest.
