thirty years have passed since the birth of the Loviisa Sibelius Festival.
The original founder of the Loviisa Sibelius Festival, Erik Tawastjerna, constructed the festival with a completely different concept from what it is today.
There were panel discussions with various composers and there were much fewer concerts. The idea was not to have the festival each year.
I received a phone call in 1997, and to my great pleasure I was asked if I would be interested in invigorating the Loviisa Sibelius Festival. The cultural planning group of the City of Loviisa at the time launched the idea of highlighting Loviisa as a prominent Sibelius town. Over the years Loviisa has in fact become an internationally known cultural Sibelius town.
I had long thought of creating my own festival, so the invitation came at precisely the right time.
These eventful years have seen spectacular concerts and famous artists from all over the world, as well as given colourful memories.
I would like to thank everyone in the Loviisa Sibelius Festival planning group, the City of Loviisa, the financial support of which makes the Loviisa Sibelius Festival possible, and of course you, dear audience, who come year after year to enjoy our concerts.
I wish you enjoyable listening moments!
